Since the establishment of the Association in 2017 we have been volunteering
Association for the Ethical Treatment of Humans and Animals „We are Part of the Solution“ is a group of enthusiasts who have been volunteering for years doing their best efforts to improve living conditions of all animals in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). It is the only animal welfare organization in the country that aims to help in building a systemic approach to solving animal suffering by establishing partnership with all relevant authorities and doing animal advocacy activities. Our main goal is to help enforce and improve regulations on animal welfare and protection. We also aid in the investigation and prosecution of criminal offences against animals, providing legal protection to animals and legal advice to citizens who report abuse.
Funders and Board members of the Association have been helping and rescuing animals for years. After a long period of struggling in rescuing and helping stray animals which ended up on the street due to the lack of implementation of the legislation and fighting to close fur farms, in 2017 we founded the Association that would require solutions and help competent authorities to build a systemic approach in solving these problems. For several years, we worked on a voluntary basis. However, in 2023 we decided to start seeking for funding in order to build capacities which would enable us to fully devote to our work on a professional way.
Due to the lack of implementation of the Law on Animal Welfare and Protection in (BiH) adopted in 2009 and the failure of local authorities to undertake serious steps to improve the conditions of all living animals, as well as the lack of judicial authorities to investigate and judge criminal acts against animals, the general situation in the country that includes all types of animals is way below satisfactory level. To be more precise, it is horrible. Moreover, it is sometimes the case that public institutions or companies are the ones that commit violence against animals instead of protecting them.
Therefore, it is likely we would be focused on the following sets of activities:
- Strengthening capacities of relevant public institutions in charge of animal protection (Veterinary Office, veterinary inspections, municipality services, police, prosecutor’s office, courts, etc.) and working closely with them
- Strengthening capacities of organizations (NGOs/CSOs) in charge of animal welfare and protection
- Raising public awareness of animal rights, animal abuse and the obligation to report it and react upon
In relation to animal abuse, our desire is to build a basis for so called “animal police” containing of a team of which animal lovers / members of animal protection organizations will be a part.
We are fully aware that our mission is very hard and requiring but we strongly believe it will have long-term effects.
